Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Up in Smoke. By Songfacts®.

A live stomper, "Up In Smoke" is about all the hellraising and celebrating that happens when Blackberry Smoke comes into town for a show: Everywhere we go everywhere we been leave a trail of ashes and a trail of sin

The band wrote this song with Randy Houser, who in addition to being a solo artist, also writes for others (he co-wrote "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" for Trace Adkins). Houser wanted to write a song called "Blackberry Smoke," but the band wasn't feeling a self-titled track. Instead, they came up with one that made a less direct reference to their name: "Up In Smoke."

In our interview with Blackberry Smoke frontman Charlie Starr, he said of this track: "It's not necessarily a deep statement. It's really just a road song, a fun song. It's not altogether complicated - you have to have songs like that. You have love songs and sad songs and murder songs, and then you have fun songs, and that's one."
