Paul Stanley sang lead on this track and wrote it with Vini Poncia, who produced the album. The song is about a woman who has him in her thrall - she's the only one who can make him feel love is smart. Stanley's songs often have something to do with love or lust, while his bandmate, Gene Simmons, writes more about music and mayhem.
Stanley is influenced by soul music and even started his own revue, Paul Stanley's Soul Station, in 2015. "What Makes the World Go 'Round" was influenced by one of his favorite soul groups, The Spinners, whose hits include "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" and "I'll Be Around." "I know where the influences are on many songs," he told Songfacts. "I'm a product of all the music that I loved."
This is part of the Unmasked album, which didn't go over well with the Kiss faithful. Their next album nearly sank the ship: The Elder, a concept album with an orchestra and choir they later disavowed.
