Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Get Over It. By Songfacts®.

This song is about people who go on daytime television talk shows and cry about how messed up their lives are just to get the attention. These shows proliferated in the early '90s, with folks like Geraldo Rivera, Vicki Lawrence, Gordon Elliott, Marilu Henner and Carnie Wilson all getting their own shows. This is in addition to Maury Povitch, Jerry Springer and Oprah.

"Get Over It" was the first new Eagles song in 14 years. The band broke up quite acrimoniously in 1980, but by 1993 the five band members - Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, Don Felder, and Timothy B. Schmit - declared a truce and appeared in Travis Tritt's video for his cover of "Take It Easy." A lot of tension in the group came from making their albums, always an arduous process that strained the band dynamics. Knowing they couldn't go back down that path, they decided to make a live album and to tour, but they wanted some new material to work with as well. Henley and Frey wrote "Get Over It," which was released as the lead track and first single from the album, Hell Freezes Over. The Eagles ended up recording four new songs (including "Get Over It") in the studio, which were included on the album along with live versions of many of their hits. On the accompanying DVD, they performed those four songs. The tour went so well it was extended and ran for over two years. It was notable for high ticket prices, many that cost over $100.

In the line, "The more I think about it old Billy was right, let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight," Henley is referring to William Shakespeare.
