Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Twist. By Songfacts®.

Korn open their second album, Life Is Peachy, with this 49-second prelude. "Twist" is lead singer Jonathan Davis' feral scat singing alternated with the word "twist," framed by a very heavy groove. It lets the listener know what's in store for the rest of the album.

It's no good trying to understand what Davis is scat singing because it's gibberish. Asked by Rock N Roll Experience what he's saying, Davis replied: "Not a damn word. It's my crazy scatting style I guess."

When Davis' bandmates first heard the song, it blew their minds. "Once [Jonathan] did 'Twist,' it was, like, 'What in the hell was that?'" guitarist Brian Welch recalled on the Do You Know Jack? podcast. "And we were like, 'Let's open the record with that.' And people will be like, 'What? What is this? No one ever has done that.'"
