White Stripes, Raconteurs and Dead Weather member Jack White opens his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, with this song where the narrator is having his body parts removed as he sleeps. "Sometimes people control everything about you," he sings, "when they tell you they can't live without you, they ain't lying, they'll take pieces of you." White explained to NME: "I had a bloody nose in the shower, and I sang that line, 'I was in the shower so I could not tell my nose was bleeding.' Somebody's stalking pieces of the character in the song's body while he's sleeping, and I just wanted to turn it into a bigger metaphor about relationships and what it all means."
