Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Somethin' I'm Good At. By Songfacts®.

Written by Brett Eldredge and Tom Douglas, this goofy uptempo jam finds the singer professing that he's not very good at a lot of things but he is able to make that special lady in his life smile. I can't change the world, no I can't change a flat If you give me your heart, girl, well, you may never get it back You said you'd never smile again, but oh no, here it comes Would you look at that I finally found somethin' I'm good at "This song is about embracing your flaws and your quirks," Eldredge explained to The Tennessean. "But in life, you find that everybody is good at something. The song is like me coming to the realization that when I find that girl who loves me for me and she smiles regardless of all my craziness ... I finally found something I'm good at. It's making her smile."

The song's music video finds Brett Eldredge creating inadvertent suburban havoc as he pursues a girl through the neighbourhood. The clip was directed by Ethan Lader, who's worked on visuals for the likes of Bruno Mars, Mariah Carey and Nelly; it was his first for a country music artist.

The song came about when Brett Eldredge and Tom Douglas were trying to write a ballad. It wasn't going anyway and Eldredge was getting fidgety. He recalled to The Boot: "I said, 'I can't do any it anymore. I've got to get my head out of this space. We're in the darkest place right now, and I've got to shake it up.' So I pick up a guitar - which I never do with Tom Douglas, because he's an amazing piano player - I pick up a guitar, and I say, 'Alright. We've gotta write something in 30 minutes. We can't overthink ourselves. We just have to do it.'" Eldredge started strumming the song on the guitar. He recalled what happened next: "We just started coming up with these quirky lines, rhyming things in different ways, kind of telling my story of my personality, which is all over the place - just tried to give something that's [about] embracing your faults and making them beautiful, embracing the randomness in my life, being clumsy and being okay with being clumsy, or whatever." "We're all just people; we're all just having fun," he continued. "I wanted to remind people of that. In the end, that becomes endearing; that makes somebody smile. There's somebody out there that's going to like you and love you for the crazy mess that you are. That's what I'm always looking for, and that's why I wrote the song, and I finally found something I'm good at. That's what it's all about."
