The lead single from the Bono and The Edge penned Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is performed by Reeve Carney, who stars in the musical as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The U2 duo back the singer while Carney's band act as the song's orchestra. The single was released digitally on May 25, 2011.
Whilst the soundtrack album was overseen by U2 production mainstay Steve Lillywhite, this beat-rock ballad was produced by Alex Da Kid. The British producer is best known for co-writing Eminem's hit single "Love The Way You Lie."
Whilst Bono and the Edge penned the song's soaring chorus, the verses were written by Mark Foster of Foster the People. He recalled to Spinner UK: "I was in the studio with a producer called Alex the Kid and we were just songwriting together. We worked on this tune and it turned out it was a Bono/the Edge song that I wrote the verses for."
