This is about a crush Avril has on a guy, but every time she sees him she gets nervous and can't seem to say what she wants. She wants to tell him that she wants to spend the rest of her life with him, but the words won't come out.

A track from Lavigne's debut album, Let Go, "Things I'll Never Say" is one of five songs she wrote for the set with the songwriting team The Matrix. This was a winning combination: Lavigne's first three singles were songs she wrote with this group - "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi" and "I'm With You."
