In the midst of President George W. Bush's post-9/11 "War On Terror," Disturbed wrote this track warning people against deifying mortal men. The track incorporates samples of Bush's speech urging the nation to go to war. "The song's not specifically about George Bush, it's about people like him," frontman David Draiman explained. "It's meant to be cryptic and ambiguous. It's about attributing God-like qualities to politicians and public figures. That's why in the beginning you hear that sample from Bush's 9/11 speech. It's the perfect example of someone who was attributed God-like power, and deified. Whether it's Bush, the Pope, Ted Turner, or anybody else like that, it just warns of the danger of that sort of behavior, treating a human being like a God."
This is a track from Ten Thousand Fists, the band's third studio album. Bolstered by its lead single, "Guarded," it debuted at #1 in the US.
