Interesting facts and trivia about My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up). By Songfacts®.

The announcement of Fall Out Boy's return to music on February 4, 2013 after a 3-plus year hiatus came out of nowhere. Alongside this single, the Chicago pop-punk act also revealed details of their Save Rock And Roll album. "When we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music," the quartet said in a statement. "It's why we started Fall Out Boy in the first place. This isn't a reunion because we never broke up. We needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us. The future of Fall Out Boy starts now. Save Rock And Roll." Fans responded, making this song (along with "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons), one of the rare rock songs to dominate the pop landscape in the later half of 2013. Most hits of this time were EDM, R&B, or straight pop songs.

Bassist Pete Wentz explained on his website that the album title is not meant to be taken literally. "One of the problems with rock lately is that people take things too seriously," he said. "Fall Out Boy has always played with irony and tried to take the piss out of ourselves as much as anyone else."

The song's viral video sees Fall Out Boy's past going up in flames as rapper 2 Chainz sets the band's albums on fire. The artists are on the same label (Island Def Jam), and Wentz told MTV News how he and the Harlem MC discussed the collaboration over dinner. "The night I went out with 2 Chainz to talk about this, we took a picture together," he said. "He posted it on the Internet like, 'Fall Out Boy featuring 2 Chainz.' Kids were like, 'That's not real.'
"The stuff we were doing was so crazy, it was like disbelief," Wentz added. "It was like, 'Nah. Definitely they're gonna be playing on a TV show, but not [working with] rappers.'"
