Soldier Side - Intro

This song is about soldiers leaving for war and the sadness it causes their parents ("They were crying when their sons left"). It also tells of God's displeasure with war.

SOAD lead singer Serj Tankian writes most of the lyrics for the band, but guitarist Daron Malakian wrote "Soldier Side," words and music.

The band's drummer, John Dolmayan, doesn't think too hard about the band's lyrics, as he's focused on melodies. This one got his attention though. "Lyrically, I'd say the only song that I really play close attention to is 'Soldier Side,'" he said in a Songfacts interview. "To me, that's more like a story."
