Rita Ekwere is a British singer and songwriter who records under the name of Ray BLK. In 2016, Ekwere self-released her mini album Durt, which includes this song about her home town of Catford in London. She penned the tune at a time when she had just been robbed. Ekwere recalled to the BBC: "I honestly just wanted to leave. I was like, 'I'm getting robbed. My neighbors sell drugs out of their house. It's not where I need to be.'" She added: "I was extremely upset because my laptop got stolen and it had all my old songs that I'd been writing for years and years. It hurt so much."

Ekwere hooked up with her fellow Londoner, grime artist Stormzy, for this tune. She explained the collaboration to NME during a January 2017 interview: "I met him three years ago at a local talent show. He gave me some advice about the music industry; to take my time and focus on my music. I said that at the right time we'd work together one day - then the right time came."
