"Timothy" is about Jet guitarist Cameron Muncey's brother, who passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) before Cam was born. He always felt like a replacement child and had always been upset about the death of his brother. He was talking to Jet drummer Chris Cester about this one day, and Chris wrote the song for him. It's a slow, emotional song that stands in contrast to Jet's rockers like "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Cold Hard Bitch."
"Timothy" is the last song on Get Born, Jet's debut album - it almost didn't make the cut. The band is an Australian group with two brothers: Chris Cester and lead singer Nic Cester. They found themselves very busy in 2004 when the album took off. Most of their shows were outside of Australia, including an "Aussie Invasion" tour of the US with The Vines and The Living End. They put out their next album, Shine On, in 2006, but by then their star had fallen. The group stayed together a few more years but took a hiatus starting in 2011 that lasted until they re-formed as a live act in 2017. After getting back together, they were careful to maintain a reasonable schedule that allowed them to spend time with their families.
