Jay-Z links up with reggae star Damian Marley for this cut. Jay told iHeart Radio: "The song 'Bam' with Damian Marley, it's just jammin', it's just like the song. But it's secretly Shawn Carter saying, 'Man, you need a bit of ego.' It was because of me and the things that I've done, this is JAY-Z saying you needed a bit of ego for us to arrive at this point."

Damian Marley has form collaborating with hip hop stars. Back in 2010, he recorded Distant Relatives, a collaboration album with rapper Nas.

No I.D's production borrows multiple elements from Sister Nancy's 1982 track "Bam Bam" and during the hook he samples Jacob Miller's 1976 cut "Tenement Yard."
