In the liner notes of Everclear's Ten Years Gone greatest hits CD, lead singer Art Alexakis wrote: "I had met so many dorks that thought this was the way I lived, so being the smart ass that I am, I tried to write a song from that perspective. Little did I know that people were going to think that I was being autobiographical (and little did I want to admit that some of it was)."
Art Alexakis performed this song on the Nickelodeon TV show Ned's Declassified, where he appeared as a music teacher and played it for a kid who didn't think music class was cool.
