Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Brokenheartsville. By Songfacts®.

Like many Country songs, this is about heartache. The narrator's girl has found another man. He says their love has gone to hell, and so as he. Now he's drinking beer in a bar at a town called "Brokenheartsville."

During an interview with The Boot to publicize Nichols' 2011 Greatest Hits collection, it was mentioned to Nichols that three of the 10 tracks on the disc all mentioned a particular car: Cadillac's Coupe de Ville. The songs in question are "Brokenheartsville," "Size Matters" and "I'll Wait for You." "It's kind of just a coincidence," the singer said with a shrug. "'Coupe de Ville' sings pretty. [laughs] If you can fit it in a song, it sings well. No, there was nothing special about it."

The song was Nichols' first #1 single on the Billboard Country chart, as well as the first chart-topper for Universal South Records. Four songwriters collaborated on it: Donny Kees, Blake Mevis, Randy Boudreaux and Clint Daniels. Nichols says it's his favorite of the songs he recorded but didn't write.
