This hypnotic track finds Halsey and her rumored beau, British singer-songwriter Yungblud, making music together for the first time. The pair swap Auto-Tuned verses before coming together at the chorus as they ruminate over a relationship that was self-sabotaged. "The song tells the story of a perfect tragedy that reflects modern love within our society," Yungblud explained. "We are so distracted and focused on what's next, we can fail to see what is actually in front of us. We don't realize how much we need something until it's taken away from us."
The track is underscored by a high-powered drumming contribution from blink-182's Travis Barker.
Halsey, Yungblud and Travis Barker wrote the song along with producer/songwriter Matt Schwartz (Cold War Kids, Kylie Minogue). It was produced by the latter with Zakk Cervini (Good Charlotte, Simple Creatures) and Chris Greatti (Black Veil Brides, Grimes).
