This is a single from rapper Q-Tip's third studio album, Kamaal the Abstract, which was originally set to be released with the title Abstractions in 2001. However the label believed that it did not have commercial appeal and it never came out. Battery Records finally released the album on September 15, 2009.
Q-Tip explained to MTV News: "It's a song about somebody I knew, or know. She was really smart and articulate. She danced. She was a stripper. She had a kid, and she was dating this dude. He was stepping out on her. A little shorty from around my way. I would always talk to her and give her words of encouragement. So I wrote the song about her."
