Shelton wrote and performed this song with his mother, Dorothy Shackleford, a beauty shop owner. The cut finds the pair singing of the longing of a son's return home to his family for the Christmas holiday. Speaking with CBS, Shelton said that his mom didn't need much persuading to help him out on the album. "She was really excited that we were writing a song together," he explained, "because she's always coming up with song ideas." Shelton added that the song is more or less "about the relationship between a kid and his mom." And once it was written, he told her, "Mom, it'd be really cool if you sang on it with me." Dorothy's only concern was "she didn't want to sound like a hick on the recording," said Shelton with a smile. "And I was honest with her," he continued. "I told her, 'Mom, I don't really think there's much we can do to help you there. You're pretty much screwed if you think you won't sound country.'"
The song served as the inspiration for the Hallmark Channel holiday film Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas, which premiered on December 9, 2018. The film tells the story of Josh Henderson's country music star and Megan Park's businesswoman who get thrown together after their flight to Tulsa is canceled due to a snowstorm. Shelton executive produced the movie.
