Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Good Girls - John Carpenter Remix. By Songfacts®.

Here, Chrches singer Lauren Mayberry takes aim at misogynistic ideals. When Annie Mac debuted the song on her Future Sounds show, the frontwoman told the BBC Radio 1 presenter she was tackling the idea that bad things don't happen to good girls. Mayberry explained she doesn't believe the claim, "If you do all these things and you make yourself small and safe, then you'll be okay, then you'll be acceptable."

Killing your idols is a chore Mayberry wrote the song's opening line after listening to some friends argue about whether or not it's OK to remain devoted to certain problematic male artists. "I was struck by the lengths that people would go to in order to excuse their heroes and how that was so juxtaposed to my own experiences in the world," she said. "Women have to constantly justify their right to exist and negotiate for their own space."

Mayberry's bandmates, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty, created the euphoric synth-pop instrumentation, which is at odds to the downbeat lyric. "I always like that it's a little Trojan horse where you can sneak some darker things into a pop song," the songstress commented.
