In this song, Nichole Nordeman writes a letter to her younger self, letting her know that she's learned from experience that God will be with her no matter what.
An important line is, "Remember when we thought there were a handful of some magic words to pray?" In a Songfacts interview with Nordeman, she explained this was "the sinner's prayer." Said Nordeman: "The words I repeated when I was 7 years old, without a clue as to what I was really saying, but certain that these magic words protected me from a fiery hell that a loving God would let me burn in forever if I didn't say them. The prayer that is not found in scripture, anywhere. I could write pages on how deeply disturbed I am by how much damage is still done by fear-based salvation. How much unlearning a lot of us grown-ups are still doing."
