What You Get Is What You See

This country-tinged rock tune was written by regular Turner collaborators Terry Britten and Graham Lyle. In the song, Turner is telling her man that she's not about to change, and he better be OK with that.

The title is a play on the phrase "what you see is what you get." In this case, Turner warns the guy that he needs look beyond the surface to get to know her: If what you get is what you see Then I don't want your kind of love

This was the biggest hit from Tina Turner's album Break Every Rule, the follow-up to her comeback album Private Dancer. By this time, hits were harder to come by, but word was out about her spectacular live shows, which often included "What You Get Is What You See."
