Parquet Courts lead singer Andrew Savage explained to Q magazine that this gloomy anti-apathy anthem finds him warning about a potential apocalypse scenario that everybody is distracting themselves from. "There's so many things people just can't be bothered to care about, let alone be prompted into militancy or action," he said.
The song features Savage playing an Omnichord, a small electronic instrument with a keyboard and slider played on the lap. It was invented in 1981 by the Suzuki Musical Instrument Corporation as a user-friendly musical accompaniment instrument. The Omnichord has also been utilized by Damon Albarn on his Gorillaz projects, Arcade Fire on their Neon Bible album and Harry Styles on his self-titled debut record.
