Heaven and Earth's opening track is a heavy battle cry cover of James Wong, Joseph Koo and Ku Chia Hui's main theme from the 1972 Bruce Lee kung fu film Fist of Fury. It features vocalist Patrice Quinn's defiant words: And when I'm faced with unjust injury Then I change my hands To fists of fury "That's the lowest point of the whole record," Washington explained to Mojo. "I want people to realize that to live is to struggle, but also that life is beautiful. We're at the bottom of the mountain, but look up."
The Heaven and Earth album is split into two parts. Conceptually, Washington explained the Earth part starts at the bottom, moving from the black power stance of "Fists of Fury" to the wild melodic crescendo of "One of One." He added: "It's not about actual earth and actual heaven. It's about how we experience the world, and how we imagined it. If you had the power to change this world, would you do something about it?"
