Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about If Love Is The Law. By Songfacts®.

This uptempo song is about a downbeat subject matter - heartbreak. It was written by Noel Gallagher and his producer David Holmes during a phase spent listening to Genesis' 1969 track "The Conqueror." Gallagher told Rolling Stone: "I became obsessed with early Genesis, and I was like, 'F---in' hell, why has no one ever f---in' mentioned this?'"

The song features Johnny Marr (formerly of The Smiths) on guitar and harmonica. Gallagher told Radio X's Chris Moyles: "David was like, it needs a guitar thing and some lift towards the end. When someone says that to me, I call Johnny Marr! He's one of my oldest friends, he's very gracious with his time. Not a lot of people know that he's got a guitar shaped phone in his house, that only I have the number for – when it rings, it glows red and white, he knows it's me. He picks it up and says 'The Boy Wonder. What can I do for you?' I'm afraid, Batman, it's that time again. It still blows my mind that he would even come and help us with a track."

Noel Gallagher's relationship with Johnny Marr goes back to the 1990s. The former Smiths axeman lent the Oasis tunesmith the guitar that he wrote The Queen Is Dead on. Gallagher used it to pen "Slide Away."
