This song finds Jillian Banks giving a four-minute telling off to a guy who mistreated the titular "goddess." She gave it all, you gave her s--t She coulda done, just anything Or anyone, cause she's a goddess You never got this You put her down, you liked her hopeless To walk around, feeling unnoticed You shoulda crowned her, cause she's a goddess You never got this Banks told The Sun: "I want women to hear and feel the song 'Goddess.' I want it to massage their minds."
Banks debuted the song at a concert in Bristol, UK on March 20, 2014. "It's so important for women to embrace themselves and feel like goddesses," she said before introducing the tune. "The song's called 'Goddess' because every woman is a f---ing goddess."
Banks told The Guardian that many of her songs, especially this one, are defined by the idea of empowerment. "It's a big thing in my music, to highlight being human, being emotional, and powerful, like a goddess," she said. "I want people to feel the times where they don't feel good. You should dive into those emotions, because that's what I do with my music. Being brave enough to just be unapologetic for who you are, that's a goddess. It's like, who wants to be a robot?"
