Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about King of the Clouds. By Songfacts®.

In this song Panic! man Brendon Urie goes out of body, ascending to become "King Of The Clouds." It's a place where his outsized imagination can thrive. The song was influenced by the astronomer/author Carl Sagan, who shows up in the line, "Every day, I'm Carl Sagan in space."

Urie wrote this song with the track's producers, Alex Kresovich and Jake Sinclair, and with the songwriters Sam Hollander and Suzy Shinn. In a Songfacts interview with Hollander, he explained how the concept came about: "Brendon is a very sharp and interested person. 'King Of The Clouds,' we were just sitting out back, he's riffing on Carl Sagan and as he's riffing I'm writing down notes and trying to summon that astral plane as well."

This was released as a single from Pray For The Wicked, the sixth Panic! At The Disco album and second with Urie the only member. Urie programmed the drums, Alex Kresovich played piano and organ, Kenneth Harris was on guitar, and Rob Mathes arranged the strings.
