Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about She's Mine. By Songfacts®.

This lighthrearted rocker finds Kip Moore trying to find his perfect mate. The song dates back to the late 2000s when he was spending a lot of time on the road as a touring musician. His former guitarist, Dave Lapsley, who was married, would joke with the singer about different girls they encountered being his potential wife. "It was the waitress behind the counter," he recalled to Billboard. "Then we'd walk out of the door and a redhead walked by and he said, 'That might be her, too.' The next person walked by and we were just laughing about it." Inspired by those conversations, Moore penned "She's Mine" with longtime collaborators Dan Couch and Scott Stepakoff. Moore performed the song in his live shows from time to time and planned to release it as the lead single from his 2015 album, Wild Ones; however, he couldn't get the production right. "We just missed the mark when we tracked it the first time. It was too slick and didn't capture the energy like I wanted it to or even the sentiment of the song," Moore said. "I wasn't willing to put it out with the way that it was." "She's Mine" found new life one night in 2018 when Moore played the song in the dressing room and his band lit up upon hearing it. Encouraged by the response, Moore had another go at tracking it, this time to his satisfaction. A decade after writing the tune, "She's Mine" finally found its way onto wax (at least the digital equivalent) when it was released as a single on August 9, 2019.

The song finds Moore contemplating whether his future wife "may be in Dallas cheering for the Cowboys," "laying low in Mexico," or in "Vegas at a table dealing blackjack." He explained to ABC Radio: "I wrote this song at a time in my life when I realized that my life was flipped upside down and I didn't know which way was up. Every experience from there forward, I felt like everything was going to be a surprise. I didn't know where I was going to end up, who I was going to meet or who I was going to be with."

The song's live-action music video was filmed during Moore's performance of the song at the Watershed Festival in George, Washington on August 2, 2019.
