Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Albion. By Songfacts®.

This is a poetic view of a mythical Britain - Albion being the most ancient name for Great Britain. "Albion" is the ancient word for white. When the Romans first saw the white cliffs of Dover they called Britain the White Land.

This was originally a poem written by Pete Doherty when he was 16, and it was the first song Doherty ever wrote. Babyshambles bass player Drew McConnell remarks in the New Musical Express: "The first time I heard this song I made Pete play it over and over again. It was the first song he ever wrote, and I'm amazed he didn't record it with The Libertines. He's been holding back his trump card!"

Pete Doherty on being asked in the October 2007 edition of Q Magazine when he started to think he was any good, said: "Maybe when I was getting the same feeling from things that I wrote that I was getting from other people's songs. Albion. when I wrote Albion probably."
