Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Shroud. By Songfacts®.

Tech N9ne was in a dark place for a long time after the death of his mother, and this song reflects his sadness at his loss. He told Artist Direct: "After mom passed, this darkened shroud hit me. I would call it the tar coming from my hands on K.O.D.. It was the tarlike substance coming from my eye on the Seepage EP. It was all over my head on the Boiling Point EP. Now, it's a full blackened shroud over me after my angel left." "The song was taking all of the anger, sadness, and me feeling like mom was cheated throughout her life because she was sick for the entire duration—yet she still remained the spiritual being she is," he continued. "It was all the sadness and anger from that. Then, I was pulling all of the madness with the police and things on the East Coast, Ferguson, and all of the events I was talking about in 'Aw Yeah' going in Syria and Benghazi. It was taking the evilness of everybody and throwing it back on the evil. This blackened substance is all of that anger and madness. This 'Shroud' carries all of that, and it's directed back at the evil for being evil."
