Interesting facts about Das Boot. By Songfacts.
German producer Alex Christensen named his dance music project after the German submarine U-96 that features in the World War 2 film Das Boot. Their first hit was this techno makeover of Klaus Doldinger's opening theme of the movie. Tenor saxophonist Doldinger led the '70s and '80s fusion group Passport and also composed the orchestral score for the movie The NeverEnding Story. U96 continued to record well into the 21st century and in 2006 they returned to the German charts with the song "Vorbei."
