The introductory track to Kirk finds DaBaby tapping into a more vulnerable side of his persona. The North Carolina rapper raps introspective bars about grappling with loss and his success in the rap game. He dedicated the song to his late grandmother and father, who both passed away during his rise to mainstream fame.
DaBaby recalls how his father passed away just as his breakthrough song "Suge" was topping Billboard's Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart. They found him dead a couple days before I started tour Same day I flew back to the city from Miami I was out there with the family Just lookin' at my daughter Thinkin' to myself like, "Damn, my baby look just like my daddy" DaBaby posted on Instagram in March 2019. "I got a text message saying my album was #3 on the charts then talked to my lil brother and found out my pops passed away out of nowhere and my s--t went #1 on the charts out of nowhere. My biggest loss and my biggest win at the same time."
The peppery beat comes courtesy of DJ Kid. aka: De'Juane Dunwood. This was the producer's first major placement.
