This song finds Laura Pergolizzi singing about two girlfriends' West Coast trip where they hope to rekindle their disintegrating relationship. The track was born out of a Joshua Tree excursion the singer took with some close friends after returning home from a long tour. She told Songfacts: "'Girls Go Wild' is about my ex, and about all the people that come to California and decide to explore their wild side... not even their wild side, but go to make it and find themselves. All the women I've dated who wanted to be actresses or rock stars – including myself – and going and becoming somebody else."
A live favorite since February 2018, the song was produced by LP's frequent collaborator Mike Del Rio (X Ambassadors, Kylie Minogue) and released on August 17, 2018.
