Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Send Me Home. By Songfacts®.

This song is about the downside of life on the road. Guitarist and primary songwriter Ben Bruce explained to Billboard magazine: "Everyone thinks, 'Oh, you're a rock star, you're living the life, you're living the dream, you get to party every day.' While it's true that we're living a life that we love and what we dreamed when we were kids, people don't actually take into consideration the fact that we are away from everyone we love, that we do wake up in a different city every day not knowing where we are. We don't really get a bed to sleep in. We sleep in a coffin, essentially, on a moving bus or an airplane. The song is just about missing normal life at home with your family and your loved ones."

Bruce began writing the song one 2015 night around 4 a.m. on the band's tour bus. "I was drinking some alcohol, and I just got sad that particular night. I was up on my own, I didn't have my boys around me; they were all sleeping," he recalled. "I didn't have my family around me. I missed home. I was going through a particularly hard time last year, so the lyrics [sporadically] fell out. I was getting my Notes out on my phone and just writing those lyrics."
