In this song, Mike Posner takes on a six-month love affair that has ended. He'd love to get her off his mind, but she's always there: I don't wanna write no song about you But you show up in everything that I do Instead of letting it go, he confronts it head-on in this song, covering the joy and pain of the breakup.
This is the first single from Posner's first album since At Night, Alone in 2016. They were a rough two years for him, as not only did he contend with the breakup, but on January 11, 2017 his father died. He was also pained by the death of Avicii on April 20, 2018.
Posner typically uses intricate wordplay in his lyrics, but he chose a straightforward route here. "This one is just fun, like, not rhyming and just saying exactly how I felt," he told Zane Lowe of Beats 1. "It just came out of loss."
