In this song, Ronnie James Dio tells girl that he'll be her personal wishing well: throw him a penny, he'll make her a dream. Dio's lyrics often dealt with good vs. evil, but this one sounds like it could be part of a Disney movie. The Heaven And Hell album was his first with Black Sabbath, which he joined in 1979, replacing their famous frontman, Ozzy Osbourne. During the Dio era, he wrote the lyrics as opposed to Geezer Butler, who was their lyricist when Ozzy was with the band.
Along with "Walk Away," "Wishing Well" is one of Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi's least favorite songs from the Ronnie James Dio era. Iommi couldn't always tell which of his riffs were the winners, so he would play them until his bandmates gave him the high sign.
