Wake Me Up

Written by Josh Osborne, Jimmy Robbins and Ashley Gorley, this song features a pop-driven, upbeat melody and about remaining friends after a break up. Currington explained: "'Wake Me Up' is a song about someone who's definitely just lost his love, and he's heartbroken – or she's heartbroken – and he's basically saying to the partner that he just lost, 'It don't matter, it don't matter when you call me, you can wake me up. Just call me, 'cause I miss ya. I love ya.'"

"Wake Me Up" is a positive spin on breaking up. The tracks on Summer Forever all focus on more upbeat subject matter rather than loneliness and sorrow. "I don't want people to skip certain songs because one made them feel down or blue, or negative," Currington told Billboard magazine. "Don't get me wrong. I love sad songs as much as anyone, but I'm also a big fan of making lighter music. I just want everyone to be happy."

Billy Currington explained how he was drawn to the track's acoustic guitar part. "When we recorded the song, I remember the acoustic [guitar] player playing a certain part in the very beginning, and it was so beautiful is the word," he said. "I just wanted to hear it over and over and over, and I was like, 'Wow! This guy is so good, and I can't believe this is gonna be on this song on my album, just something as simple as that one little acoustic part.' So, now when I play the album, I crank that part up. I just love it, and it's such a happy song. So much fun. I could go on and on about it."
