Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Melt Away - Early Version - Alternate Vocal. By Songfacts®.

This was one of six songs on Brian Wilson's 1988 eponymous album that the Beach Boys co-founder wrote with his therapist Eugene Landy. The controversial psychiatrist and caretaker developed an unorthodox 24-hour therapy intended to stabilize his patients by micromanaging their lives with a team of counselors and doctors. Back in 1982, Landy had ordered Wilson to part ways with The Beach Boys.

Wilson explained the song in press materials: "That's a spiritual sound. How many different ways can you say 'Merry Christmas?' But if you try, you can find a new way to do it. What Gene and I wanted to do on 'Melt Away' was find a new way to say that 'you make my blues fade away.' That theme in music has been done so many times, it's ridiculous; but there are new and innovative ways to say that, and I think we said it in this song."
