Girlie Girlie

The writer and producer of this reggae international hit single is Jamaican Anthony "Sangie" Davis, who also co-wrote "Wake Up And Live" on Bob Marley's 1979 Survival album.

This song came about as a result of the mother of Davis' child finding him in the company of a number of schoolgirls one day in Kingston, Jamaica. She told him off with the admonition. "Why all the time I come around you I just see all these school girls. How you so girlie girlie?" Inspired by this ticking off, Davis scribbled some words and within 10 minutes was singing them. Sophia George's manager Ronald Chung happened to pass by and asked if Sophia could record what he was singing as it had hit potential. Sophia George was working as a teacher of deaf children at the time.

This song became a massive international hit, topping the Jamaican chart for over 10 weeks and breaking into many other charts. Though it proved to be Sophia George's only hit in the UK, she had other Jamaican hits including "Lazy Body," "It Burn Mi Belly" and "Ain't No Meaning."
