Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Some Girls. By Songfacts®.

Racey were a British pop group formed in 1976. They were signed by producer Mickie Most after a pub gig in Weston-super-Mare. The quartet achieved three Top 20 hits in the UK in the late 1970s and early 1980s: "Lay Your Love on Me," "Some Girls," and a cover of Dion's "Runaround Sue."

Written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, "Some Girls" was released as the follow-up to Racey's debut hit "Lay Your Love on Me." The song was originally written for Blondie, whom Mike Chapman also produced. When Blondie turned it down, the Chapman and Chinn gave it to Racey instead.

The song was included on Racey's debut album Smash and Grab. Another track, "Kitty," was an international hit in 1981 for Toni Basil when she reworked it into "Mickey."
