It Might Be Time

The ancient Greeks had three different words for time. Chronos denotes a space of time; hora, a period fixed by nature; kairos an opportune time or season. Here, Tame Impala leader Kevin Parker is preoccupied with kairos as he shares his inner paranoid thoughts telling him he "ain't as cool as he used to be." It might be time to face it It ain't as fun as it used to be, no You're goin' under You ain't as young as you used to be. Parker fears he's lost his mojo.

"It Might Be Time" was released as the second single from The Slow Rush, Tame Impala's first album in five years. The lyric is likely a reference to thoughts plaguing Parker's mind during the long hiatus between the records.

Kevin Parker was 33 when this song was released on October 28, 2019. He told The New York Times that the theme of the ticking clock is the preeminent theme on The Slow Rush. "A lot of the songs carry this idea of time passing, of seeing your life flash before your eyes, being able to see clearly your life from this point onwards," Parker said. "I'm being swept by this notion of time passing. There's something really intoxicating about it."
