Frontman Alex Kapranos told Uncut magazine February 2008: "We weren't happy with the version we recorded in London, so we decided to listen to it live. We didn't have any tapes, so we ended up watching the versions on YouTube that fans had been taping at gigs."
This was originally earmarked to be the lead single on Franz Ferdinand's 2005 album You Could Have Had It So Much Better, but the band eventually left it off. Frontman Alex Kapranos explained why to self-titled magazine: "We recorded the second album quickly, and at the time, we felt it was the best song. Of all the songs, that's the one we were most excited about, and we thought it would be the first single. But the version that we recorded didn't feel right. So at the last minute, it was pulled off the album."
Kapranos described this to the New Musical Express January 17,2009 as a "psycho-stalker anthem."
