Closure

The third single from Chevelle's second studio album, Wonder What's Next (2002), "Closure" is a dark, melodic rock song about someone who is juggling between a state of anger, delusion, and acceptance after a breakup. On their previous single, "Send The Pain Below," lead vocalist Pete Loeffler was trapped in a bad romance where he felt suffocated. It's not clear whether he's singing about the same situation on "Closure," but he's dealing with similar feelings, knowing the problematic relationship can't continue yet still having trouble letting go.

Drummer Sam Loeffler explained the song's meaning to MTV News in 2003: "People go through experiences and they can't really get out of them until they have some closure. But the whole thing is him saying, 'No, I'm cool with it.' And at the end he says that he'll take it all back because he's still using the anger."

As the band matured, they abandoned angsty breakup tunes in favor of loftier subjects like space travel, animal cruelty, and spiritual abuse. Pete says the older songs drew from his limited experiences as a young adult and aren't something he could recreate now.
