Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Walk Like a Man. By Songfacts®.

"Walk Like a Man" finds Bruce Springsteen experiencing a series of memories from his younger days, as he stands at a church altar, watching his bride-to-be march up the aisle. Co-producer Chuck Plotkin told Mojo that the track is what the whole Tunnel of Love album is about. "Every song is about figuring out how to keep things beautiful, so not betray the truth at the heart of something that, in your sloppiness, you can crash out of existence," he explained. "This is something that Bruce has always been dealing with."

Springsteen did all the vocals and played every instrument on the track except for some overdubbed percussion by Max Weinberg. After touring for Tunnel of Love, Springsteen dissolved the E Street Band and entered a new musical phase where he did more on his own, including the song "Streets Of Philadelphia" for the acclaimed movie Philadelphia. He also became a family man; his three kids were all born in the '90s. Fans were delighted when he rebooted the E Street Band in 1999.
