Interesting facts and trivia about Transgender Dysphoria Blues. By Songfacts®.

Against Me!'s sixth album deals with its frontwoman's transition from Tom Gabel to Laura Jane Grace. The vocalist built her own studio in an abandoned Florida post office to record the record, which was released on Grace's new label, Total Treble Music. Speaking with NME, the singer spoke about being on the road for a year and a half and recording the new album three times to get it just right. "I didn't want to go to some studio and work it out in front of some engineer that I didn't know," she said. "And in a really male environment, usually, So I built a studio and recorded quite a lot of it on my own."

Laura Grace explained this track's meaning to NME: "That song is about when someone is reading you in a negative way for not fitting into their idea of gender, and looking at you like you're f---ing disgusting."

The album marked the first since Grace made her transition, but her voice didn't change, as hormone therapy typically does not affect vocals.
