Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about How I Weep. By Songfacts®.

Norah Jones began writing poetry separately from her music for the first time in her life in between her seventh and eighth albums. Eventually, several of those poems found their way back into songs on Pick Me Up Off the Floor, including this track.

It was Jones' poet friend Emily Fiskio whose work (along with all the Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein she's been reading to her kids) inspired the songstress to write her own poetry. Jones doubted she would ever release a book of poems so she began thinking about how to turn it into a song. She recalled to Apple Music that she started with "How I Weep." "I waited until the house was quiet, and played and sang until it came together. I always had it first in my little side playlist. It was always the first song. So when I decided to turn those songs into an album, I knew this would be the introduction."

Aizuri Quartet viola player Ayane Kozasa and cellist Paul Wiancko accompany Jones as she mourns an untold loss. Said the singer: "I immediately thought of this string duo I saw to do an arrangement and I loved how it turned out as if they played the main role of the subject, or the 'loss.'"
