Asked by Coup de Main magazine what inspired to write this banjo-laced tell-off tune, Musgraves replied: "There was a certain person in my world at the time that was being pretty negative, and it jut started as funny little paragraphs about it but then it actually took life when we came up with: 'Just keep climbing that mountain of dirty tricks, when you finally get to the top, step off.'"
