A duet with his sister Janet, this song was a response to the frustrations Michael and Janet Jackson were feeling. Michael was dealing with the fallout from his child molestation trial, which he settled out of court, as well as media coverage of his marriage to Lisa Marie Presley. Janet didn't face nearly as much scrutiny, although she did approach her brother's notoriety in 2004 when her breast was revealed during a performance at halftime of the Super Bowl.

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who worked on many of Janet's hits, produced this track and wrote it with Janet and Michael.

At the time, the video was the most expensive ever made, costing $7 million. Directed Mark Romanek, it won a Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video. Romanek also directed the Johnny Cash video for "Hurt."
