Taylor Swift grew up on a Christmas tree farm that was run by her parents at their Pine Ridge Farm home in Reading, Pennsylvania. This festive song finds her caught up in the stress of the holiday buildup in the city. She closes her eyes and imagines: A Christmas tree farm Where the people would come To dance under sparkles and lights Bundled up in their mittens and coats
Taylor Swift wrote the song on December 1, 2019. According to the songstress, she asked her cats Meredith, Benjamin, and Olivia if she should release the tune straight away or wait till next year. The moggies shunned her with ambivalence, but Taylor decided to record the tune anyway. The pop star immediately hit the studio to record the track with London producer Jimmy Napes (Sam Smith's "Too Good At Goodbyes," Clean Bandit's "Rather Be"). There was a quick turnaround and the song was dropped on December 6, 2019.
This isn't Taylor's first Christmas release. Back in 2007, she dropped a holiday EP, The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection, which featured the original tunes "Christmases When You Were Mine" and "Christmas Must Be Something More."
