The robots of Daft Punk get very human on "Something About Us," a song about a love that wasn't to be. It's the aftermath of a breakup, and the guy wants his ex to know that even though the timing didn't work out, there was always something special between them, and the feelings are still strong. "I love you more than anyone in my life," he says. Daft Punk wasn't really robots - the lead vocal on this song is by Thomas Bangalter - but they dressed like androids and always wore helmets. Before releasing this song on their Discovery album in 2001 (their first since Homework in 1997), they spread rumors that the original group had been killed and replaced with robots.
For the Discovery album, Daft Punk made an animated film called Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, sections of which served as the music videos. There is no dialogue in the film, which was released in 2003.
The duo Pomplamoose did a cover of "Something About Us" that garnered over 15 million views on YouTube. Their version features their female vocalist, Nataly Dawn, who sings some of it in French.
